So today, myself, Mike, Erin, Mikey, Shantel, Matt, Bobbie Jo, and Marina went to Rayne's house to have a Christmas dinner. We had pasta, mashed potatoes, salami, assorted veges, Soju, beer, wine and cider.

It was an excellent time. We then watched Season 5 of Family Guy. Rayne was passed out in the end...wine...lush...

Mike and Mikey were domestic gods cleaning up all the dishes in the end.

I also tooks some more photos and have some videos of the event. The videos are just us having some fun.

Birthday Party

On Friday, some friends (David, Rayne and Matt) celebrated my friends Dongse (in the green) and his girlfriends (in the black) birthday at the Dragon Bar in Nowon. Earlier, Dongse, his girlfriend and three other people went for some food. Delicious!

The Dragon was fun. Lots of drinks. Didn't stumble home until 4:30 in the am.

Meeting Aunt Hwa Ja and Stephen

So, this past Sunday, I traveled down to Ansan (안산) to meet my aunt Hwa Ja, her husband Stephen and thier children, Matthew and Ashley for the first time in my life. They currently live in Surfer's Paridise, Australia. Cool name, huh? My aunt looks just like my mother, but younger. It was kinda of freaky. So when you see the pictures, just think a little older and that's what my mother looks like. Both my aunt and uncle speak fluent Japanese, so their two small children speak, English, Korean and Japanese! Lucky! It was a real good time and the food spread was excellent. My grandmother keeps telling me that I have to learn Korean. So, I'm working hard at it!

Shabu Shabu

I don't know if Shabu Shabu is the right spelling. If it isn't, my bad. But that day, a group of us went down to Yongsan (용산) and spent a shitload of money on DVD's. For those who don't know, in Yongsan you can buy copied DVD's for real cheap. The lowest is 3000 Won! The people who sell these copies are real honest as well. If the quality is not good, they will tell you. At least that's how it has been in my experiences there. After that, we then proceeded to go back down to Sanggye (산계) Station and went to a real good Shabu Shabu place. I say real good as if I've had it before. Like with Fondue, it was my first time and it was excellent!

Christmas Fondue

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago, I met my friends Shelly, Rachel Lynn, Jes, Heidi, Cam and Saejin at the All Swiss Chalet in Itaewon for a Christmas Fondue Dinner. I had never had fondue before, so I was a little leary (picky cheese person I am). But the fondue was great and I had Chocolate Fondue for dessert!!!! Yum! I had a great time, but I had to bail early because I'm watching my friends dog, Jack, for the month.

Sidenote: The part of Itaewon that I was in was nothing like the normal Itaewon. It was quite nice.

Chuseok

Ok, so during the week of Chuseok, I had the opportunity to meet my grandmother and uncle for the first time of my life!

I met my aunt (Uncle's wife)at 상셰 station. My aunt doesn't speak english and I don't speak much Korean...

She read a book...

...I went to sleep on the train.

One hour and 45 minutes later...we arrived in 안산.

There are a lot of Middle Easterners in this area. A short bus ride later, I met some new family

When my grandmother saw me, she grabbed my hands and started to cry a little

We then ate some really delicious food. Kimbap, bulgogi, kimchi, dok, tofu jiggae. They kept commenting on how big I was...I don't know how to feel about that. My grandmother kept feeding me and feeding me. I felt like I was about to explode...

My uncle wanted to drink whiskey with me and was trying to get me drunk! Ha!

Yes, he IS that short. I was like Andre the Giant compared to them. I'm HUGE!

My uncle then had me watch Superman Returns and Mission Impossible 3.

Communicating was tricky. A lot of body language was used. They also were facinated with my Lonely Planet Phrasebook.

It would've been easier if I could speak more Korean than I can. I have to work on that.

It's weird meeting family for the first time. I really didn't go through alot of emotions. I didn't know what to feel at the time. I did know that this would make my mother and grandmother very happy. I was too.

Japan

Ok. Here is the post that I promised a long time ago, but never did. I few weeks back I went to Japan to get my VISA. The trip started out shitty because I had a cold. So, during the flight, my ears would not depressurize because of my cold. Let's just say that that is one of the most painful experiences of my life. Pain. The stewardess gave me some candy to help with the problem, but all it gave me was fresh breath. Did I mentioned the immense fuckin pain! So, I land in Osaka, and wander around for a few hours because I was looking for a particular hotel. A Capsule Inn. When I got there, it was pretty cool. You might ask, "Why a Capsule Inn?" Well, how many times could you say that you've been in a Capsule Inn? Ha!

The "room" might be small, but it is actually really comfortable in there. Inside the capsule there even was a TV and a Radio. Fancy! All for about $20.

What can I say about Japan?

It fuckin rocks! There is a very noticable difference between the Japanese and the Koreans. The Japanese really have taken the Western influence and have made it there own. It seemed like a mixture of...Western-Asian-Punk...yeah. Oh, people rode bikes everywhere! I have never seen so many bikes in my life.

Oh, by the way, while in Japan, I figured that I might as well have some sushi while IN JAPAN. I went to a really cool restaurant and had some Tuna Maki and an Asahi beer. Mmm...beer.

This was my sushi chef. We chatted for awhile about the US and Japan. When I left, he gave me MORE sushi as a gift for my first time in Japan! Sweet!

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure to hang out with supercool Jes and her friend Jamie and co-worker Jamie. It was awesome to hang out with them and I'm sure we'll do it some more.

Ok, so when I got off the subway station, I didn't know of the numered exits, so I was waking around the Yaksu 약수 station for about 20 minutes. Jes and I finally met up and I had the best egg and bacon sandwitch ever. EVER. We then took a train to meet Jamie and then headed to the tower. Very cool cable car ride and the tower itself was amazing!

Incidently, Jes and I are going to start the first ever Han River Festival in Seoul. Details will be given later!

We then walked down the mountain...it took forever to go down hill. Next time, rollerblades. We then parted ways and hopefully hook up later this week.

On my first weekend here, I met my aunt and her children. Names escapes me. I'm horrible, I know. So, none of them speak English and I don't speak Korean. I turned to be a lot of smiling and nodding and improvised sign language. When they entered my house, the immediately and I MEAN immediately went into a beautiful choreographed orchestration of cleaning my apartment. No matter how many times I protested, I was given a brush off and left to watch. They were great and it was awesome to meet relatives on my Korean side for the first time in my life!

Incendently, when my little cousin talked to my grandmother, he said that he just met Hines Ward! If you don't know who Hines Ward is, he's a wide reciever for the Pittsburgh Steelers and he also is half black and half Korean. He's very famous here in Korea

Hello, I'm back. Sorry about the little gap, I've been very busy. Ok, so I'll have to keep this short and sweet as I have to work in a few minutes.

1. Korea is fucking hot!
2. For some reason, I now wake up at 8am on the nose. Alarm clock or no. For those who know me, 8am or just the "am" idea itself is just the devil's work and has no place in the lives of humans.
3. I can't post pictures right now. I'm at PC Bang's.
4. Thursday I leave for Japan. Sweet!
5. 14 hour plane rides? see number 2.

I am finally here in Seoul! That being said, I have had only about 2 hours asleep since I took off from Columbus Wed Night. I am running on fumes. I don't have a cell phone, but my apartment has a landline. I don't know the number yet. But once I get it, I will give it to whoever wants to get ahold of me.

My apartment? Kicks ass! It's like three times bigger than my apartment in Columbus. Now I need a drink!

That's all I have and then I'll be heading to Korea! I'll get in there Friday morning at 5!. Ugh! Then the next week, I have to do the Japan Visa run because my visa number isn't being issued until later this week. Tomorrow night, drinking with friends, a little D&D (not Dungeons and Dragons) is in order for the night.

Stressed Out

I still haven't received my visa number! I have to send my passport to Chicago and then wait 3-5 days to have it sent back by Friday. If I don't have it by tomorrow, I have the feeling that I am screwed. My parents keep barraging me with the same question over and over,("Have you got your number yet?" in rapid succession x infinity). I'm normally a calm person, but my cool exterior is slowly melting away and revealing the raging demon underneath. *On a side note, props to me for using a big word like barraging.

My friend Mike helped me move my stuff to my parents house. I'm pretty much packed. I believe this Friday will by my going away/getting drunk off my ass party.

I still have to finish cleaning my apartment, get a haircut, renew my driver's license, have an eye exam and contless other things.

PARIS (Reuters) -- Three weeks after France's World Cup final soccer defeat, the song inspired by captain Zinedine Zidane's fateful head-butt on Italy defender Marco Materazzi has hit number one in the nation's singles chart.

"As of today, it's No. 1 in the French charts. It has had an exceptional start, better than we could ever have hoped for," said Thierry Chassagne, president of Warner Music France, which distributes the song.

Coup de Boule, the French for "head-butt", was written by the three associates of Plage Records, a small label specializing in jingles and sound effects, the day after France's July 9 defeat in Berlin.

Zidane, one of the finest footballers of his generation, was sent off for head-butting Materazzi after exchanging comments with the Italian defender in extra time with the score at 1-1. Italy won the final after a penalty shoot-out.

The label's founders, brothers Emmanuel and Sebastien Lipszyc, and composer Franck Lascombes, penned the catchy reggae-style song and its chorus "Zidane, il a tape" ("Zidane, the hit man"), as a cure for their post-defeat blues.

Initially e-mailed to about 50 friends, the song quickly invaded the Web, with French radio SkyRock putting it on its play-list and ringtone sellers and music labels fighting for the rights.

Warner Music France eventually bought the song from the trio and two days after its release on July 20, the tune was No. 2 in the French charts, selling 17,000 copies.

More than 75,000 copies were sold in stores in the last 10 days and the tune has been downloaded more than 110,000 times.

"It's all really thanks to the Internet and the very speedy release of these products. Five years ago this would not have been possible," Chassagne said.

Coup de Boule is already the best-selling ringtone in the country and Warner is preparing Spanish, Japanese and even Italian versions of the song.

Zidane, who has now retired as a player, was fined $6,000 and handed a three-match ban by FIFA's disciplinary committee.

The Italian defender, who admitted insulting Zidane, was handed a two-match ban and fined $4,000.

The countdown to Korea is taking forever! I would like to speed up time and go already. Oh, new news: I was asked to change my date to Aug 19. This is going to be the longest Aug of my entire life. I also put in my notice to Penn Station. I really enjoyed working there. The people were nice and it was a good time there, except for the 10-minute left to closing ordering people .

I still have to move all my crap from my apartment to my parents house, buy whatever essentials needed, get my Visa stamped (hopefully), and have my drunken going away gathering.

Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder and Guilder to frame for it; I'm swamped.

What movie is that from? And who said it? I'll give you a dollar. Or take you out on a night of drinking and debauchery once I get to Seoul.

Ok, I'll post these every once in a while when one comes up for me. My first example of an IDS...let me explain what this is. An IDS is when you could and should be legally allowed to do away with someone. This is my first example. I work at a restaurant and I'm a closer. For those who don't know what that is, it means I help close the store. Here is my typical work night:

5pm-6pm- goof off (because we're not busy)

6pm-7pm- goof off (because we're not busy)

7pm-8pm- little bit of work, little bit of goof off time

8pm-9pm- get all of my closing work done (we close at 10pm)

9pm-9:50pm- goof off (because we're not busy)

9:50-10:00- SERVE THE ENTIRE FREAKIN TRI-STATE AREA!!!!

It should be legal to off anyone who comes into a restaurant with food orders when there are only 10 minutes left!!! And if, IF, you are one of those patrons and you happen to work at a restaurant yourself, the GOD help your soul!!!

I think I have a pinched nerve in my left arm. Whenever I move my left arm, the whole damm thing goes tingly and hurts after awhile. I can't figure out what it is. Also, because I don't have insurance, YET, I can't go to a doctor. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I did send all my information to Korea so I can get my visa! Yea! That's all for now.

Hello all,

I hope everyone's summer has been a good one so far. Mine has been ok. I currently work partime a local eatery here. Penn Station. As many of you know, I have been looking to go abroad to live and work. Well since finding a job in the UK has been a pain and unsuccessful, I have decided to teach English in South Korea for at least a year. Along the way I hope to have a little fun...soju...hehehe...drinking's fun...to meet my grandmother for the first time and to get to know my other side. So, I'm going back to the motherland!

Throughout my years in graduate school, we had to write journals documenting our processes which I sucked at. I would always fall behind on them or do them at the last minute. I know that I want to document my time there and I know if I had to do this in some journal, I would have just one entry. Ok, possible two. Three on a good stretch. So...I decided to create a blog. Why? Because if I only do this for myself, I know I won't write, but if others come and take a look, I will WANT to do it. It's been up for a couple of weeks now, so come take a look, leave comments and enjoy my journey.

I just saw that I'm now on the Korean Blog list and I just sent out an email to my friends and colleagues about my blog, so I guess this is the official grand opening of Seoul Brotha! Get it? Half-black, half-Korean. Seoul Brotha. TT would understand. So ya, I accepted a position with Topia English Zone in Junggye-dong, Nowon-gu Seoul, South Korea. So, this is what I now have to do according to an email I got from my recruiter:

So, When you ask about your transcript to the university, Please let them fill this requirements.
- A photocopy of your Passport
- 4 passport size pictures.

------ Diploma will return to you after Visa processing. So, even though you send your original diploma, you can get it back again.

You can contact with the Korean consulate that is nearest from you.
I hope you send your all documents to School directly as soon as possible.
After we get all your documents, we will submit them to immigration to get your certified visa number . And then the immigration office will send the certified visa number to your email address , and Korean embassy will stamp your visa onto your passport. It's good to make a phone call to the Consulate before going there.
You can pick up your ticket from the airline and with your visa in hand, and your bags packed you can start your adventure. Your employer will pick you up at the airport and take you to your apartment and the school.

I have also changed the name of my blog from "A Day in the Life" to "Seoul Brotha." If you have opinions about this, I am very interested in knowing what they are. I am also putting my blog on the Korean Blog List. I know that I'm not in Korea yet, but I might get some helpful pointers before I get there.

Hello all. Sorry it's been a little while. But since graduation I haven't found a part time job yet, so basically I've been just looking for one. No excitement there. But I did talk to a couple of recruiters for teaching in Korea and the search has begun! My parents are very supportive about it which is cool. But really that's about it right now. So...I'll talk to later.

p.s. You remember the thing about the one video a week thing? Well, I think that I'm going to turn it into my favorite songs/video segment. Each Sunday, I'll put a new favorite video according to the style of the month. Since this is the last weekend of the month, I'll put three videos up and let me know what you think. Can you give stories that relate to this song? Does it bring up memories for you? Stuff like that.

For example, this first video is of my FAVORITE band of all time. The Beatles, thank you very much and this was the very first song that i heard of theirs. I don't remember how old I was or where, I just remember the song. So here it is...

The second is also from the beatles but this is my favorite beatles song...

The last, but not least is my favorite rap group of all time. Everytime I hear their beats, it reminds me of New York City and if you were to describe NYC through beats or sounds, it would come from tribe.

Ok, so for the past several months, I have been looking for teaching jobs in the UK, because the UK rocks and I want to go there. Well because of the the damm EU thing, I can't get a job there. Add to the fact that I am financially retarded when it come to managing money, I have found myself in a huge pickle. So I'm thinking about teaching English in Korea. I think it's a good plan. It's overseas, I can save money (actually pay off retarded decisions that I have made), and see a part of the world that I might not ever see normally. I don't know. We'll see.
